The film stars Akshay Kumar, Ileana D'Cruz, Arjan Bajwa, Esha Gupta, Atul Kulkarni, Rohit Roy & Kumud Mishra in lead roles. The movie is named after the central character, who is played by Akshay Kumar. The film was released on 23 August 2017.Director Tinu Suresh Desai came up with the idea of making a movie on the life of a police officer after reading some positive reviews on some American movies about police officers and took some time to study some Indian movies on police officers like "Zanjeer", "Prakash Jha's Sarkar", "A Wednesday" and some other Bollywood movies that featured a police officer as a main lead before coming up with the story of "Rustom". In an interview he said, "I was intrigued by what I read about them [bollywood cop tales]. They were interesting because they were credible, unlike the American films I've seen where the hero becomes an officer and becomes good at it very quickly. I wanted to make my movie on a real man who had to learn how to be a police officer (a cop). That guy was sitting next to me (Akshay Kumar). The idea of making that film became more interesting." The production of the film began with real police officials and friends of Akshay Kumar joining him in Mumbai. They also trained each other how to act like a police officer so that even Akshay Kumar could properly portray his character. The actor even visited Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy and Mumbai Police Headquarters to learn about the police force. During the training period, Akshay Kumar faced a minor injury. But he didn't stop and continued with his training schedule. The team also visited several places in Mumbai where they shot several scenes of the movie like actual police stations and other places to give a realistic look to their film. The director said: "I've always wanted to do a project which is set in Mumbai and now I got my chance due to Rustom." It took almost three years for completion of all the workshops. cfa1e77820
