I am sure that you have heard of the movie 'Omkara' and its Hindi title 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. The movie is a curious blend of romance, comedy, drama and thriller. At the outset, Omkara was released in India on May 15th 2007. It was a huge success with a cult following all over India. Later it went on to become a blockbuster hit in overseas markets as well. Omkara is a modern take on the age old Hindu tale of 'Kansa' and his five friends. While all of them were involved in one way or the other in Kansa's (Rajkumar) misdoings. Omkara has converted this story into a modern love story with all the ingredients that make it a gripping film. The movie has been directed by Lal Jose, who has made some extremely popular movies like 'Hungama', 'Noorjahan', 'Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin', 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.', etc. and he has proved that he is a master at making masala movies and adored by his fans worldwide. The movie is based on the love story of Omkara (Ashok Kumar) and Mala (Sharmila Tagore). The film has been shot in beautiful locations like Goa, Jaipur, Nepal and Malaysia. Rajkumar was nominated for the Star Screen Awards 2007 as 'Best Actor' for his role as Kansa. Kansa had also won the Tamil Nadu State Film awards for 'Best Debut Actor' and 'Best Child Artist'. Rajkumar is currently the Minister for Tourism in the Kerala government. "I will try to build similar temples in Kerala, complete with waterfalls, lakes, statues of elephants and monkeys. I will also aim to promote 'Nilgiri teak' trees in Kerala," he said at a function organised by the Teak Development Council when he became its chairman in 2006. He has been chairing the council since 2006. His father Dr. C.R.K Rajkumar had also been associated with this project in his capacity as chairperson of Teak Development Council when he retired from active politics. Omkara enjoys very high set-up in the box office. The movie had collected 22 crores at the box office in just 3 days of its release. The movie reached the milestone of 200-crore industry gross collection on 23 March 2007. This film has also received six Filmfare Awards, one National Film Award and two Star Screen Awards throughout its domestic run.
